Among the loose pages of an architect's notebook was a sentence without explanation.
 
"Nothing in nature moves in a straight line once it is truly alive."

There were no sketches beside it.

No signature.

No date.

Only those thirteen words.

Years later, I began noticing how often they proved themselves true.

Smoke curls.

Water bends around stone.

Birds rise in spirals.

Galaxies turn without ever seeming to arrive.

Even our conversations rarely travel directly to what we truly mean.

Perhaps movement is not simply the act of reaching somewhere else.

Perhaps movement is how life reveals itself.

The most enduring forms do not resist change.

They carry it within their own geometry.

A spiral is not disorder.

It is direction that refuses to become predictable.

That is why it feels alive long after it has come to rest.
